Know More About EV
What are the different types of electric vehicles ?
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)
- Power Source: Run entirely on electricity from a rechargeable battery.
Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)
- Power Source: Have both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor with a battery.
Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs)
- Power Source: Use an internal combustion engine and an electric motor.
Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs)
- Power Source: Generate electricity from a chemical reaction in a fuel cell, typically using hydrogen gas.
What are the different levels of EV charging ?
Level 1: Slow AC Charging
- Power Supply: Uses a standard 120-volt AC household outlet.
Level 2: Fast AC Charging
- Power Supply:
- Utilizes a higher-voltage 240-volt AC outlet (common in homes) or 208-volt AC in commercial settings.
Level 3: DC Fast Charging (DCFC)
- Power Supply: Delivers power directly to the vehicle's battery as Direct Current (DC).
How does temperature affect EV battery performance and range ?
- Reduced Capacity and Efficiency:In cold conditions, the chemical reactions within the battery slow down, increasing internal resistance and reducing its overall capacity. This means less usable energy is available for driving.
- Increased HVAC Energy Consumption:Heating the vehicle's cabin in cold weather requires significant energy from the battery, especially with resistance heaters, leading to a substantial decrease in driving range.
- Slower Charging:Cold temperatures can also diminish the battery's charging capacity, slowing down the charging process.
